Village hotel 18st is located in Gohan, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do where coal miners used to live and work since 1980's until it went out of business. Although the famous casino hotel and water park were built to develop the town, the tourists who came to enjoy themselves didn't spend any money in the village and it became a ghost town. The residents wanted visitors to improve their quality of life. That's where the idea of making the whole street as a hotel began and the Village Hotel 18st was born.
As they got helped by the district office with the government money, the beef restaurant was turned into this hotel.
Three rooms are available through Naver reservation.
Their specialty is these flowers with LED lightings. The residents themselves learned how to make them and then decorated the hotel.
The concept of the Village Hotel 18st is a horizontal hotel, not a vertical building. Instead of building a skyscrapper or an expensive apartment complex as other developed cities do, the residents tried to maintain the current environment.
A local market nearby is a fun place to visit! You can buy locally grown vegetables, fruits, and souvenirs. Gangwon-do is known for potatoes.

It was a rainy day on Saturday when I visited. Hopefully next time I can participate in any activities with the residents.
